Compare Network / Ethernet — Side-by-Side Specs
Ethernet cable comparisons for home theater AV: Cat 6 handles gigabit with margin to spare for any streaming or media server application. Cat 6A and Cat 7 matter for 10GbE runs, which you need only if streaming 4K remuxes over your local network at multiple simultaneous streams. Shielded (STP) cables reduce RF interference in environments with dense power wiring; unshielded (UTP) is fine for most residential installs. AV-over-IP gear (Dante, AES67, AVB) has its own latency-class requirements.
