Separating amplifiers comes down to measured output power (all channels driven, 20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.1% THD) not spec-sheet peaks. Damping factor determines speaker control — anything above 100 is meaningfully different, 500+ is diminishing returns on most speakers. Check input sensitivity and whether the gain structure matches your AVR's pre-out voltage. Class A/B amplifiers generate more heat but generally measure cleaner than class D at equivalent price points.
